Minerva Park Middle School to host community book swap

Westerville City Schools students and families are invited to donate their used books — and pick up ones they haven’t read before — during the Minerva Park Community Book Swap on Friday, May 3 at the middle school.

New approach to Parent Prep event aims to offer more flexibility

Parents and caregivers planning to attend Westerville City School District’s upcoming Parent Prep workshop series no longer have to register for sessions in advance. During the workshop events on Feb. 10 at Minerva Park Middle School and March 9 at Westerville Central High School, attendees can create their own schedule, whether it’s attending one session or five.

WCSD students recognized in district PTA Reflections awards

Students in six Westerville schools received top honors in the 2023-24 WCSD PTA Reflections award program, which recognizes student achievement in literature, music, dance, film production, photography, music composition and visual arts. Students who earned first place awards will move on to the state competition.

Nominations for 2023-24 GEM Award open Jan. 9

Starting Tuesday, Jan. 9, Westerville students, staff and community members can nominate district staff and adult volunteers for a Great Educator Mentor (GEM) Award, which is presented to individuals who go the extra mile to make a positive impact in the classroom and schools.

Columbus Symphony seeks nominations for 2024 Music Educator Awards

The Columbus Symphony is currently accepting online nominations for its annual Music Educator Awards, honoring individuals making a difference in our community through their dedication to music education and efforts to promote a greater understanding of and appreciation for music education. Four awards will be given to exemplary music educators in the categories of elementary, secondary, private/community-based, and lifetime achievement.

WCSD EL Department hosts November parent meeting

Westerville City Schools' English Learner Department hosted its third parent meeting on Thursday, covering topics such as school closings in the event of inclement weather, All-Day kindergarten, special education and graduation requirements.

Julianne Schaffer, an English teacher at Westerville Central High School, Angela Zimmerman, a fourth-grade teacher at Whittier Elementary and Lowry Wisner, a third-grade teacher at Emerson Elementary have been named Westerville Education Foundation’s (WEF) May Teachers of the Month.

WCSD Treasurer/CFO Nicole Marshall presented testimony before the Ohio Senate Education Committee on May 10 on House Bill 33

Westerville City Schools Treasurer/CFO Nicole Marshall presented testimony before the Ohio Senate Education Committee on May 10 on House Bill 33, the state’s budget bill for fiscal years 2024 and 2025.

The bill includes proposals to expand eligibility for the state’s EdChoice scholarship program and continue implementation of the Fair School Funding Plan — both of which were the focus of Marshall’s testimony.
